The LCL Awards Hot Water Systems & Safety course is designed for experienced plumbing and heating professionals who work with hot water systems, including unvented hot water storage systems.
You'll develop your understanding of system design, installation, commissioning, servicing and safety, with particular focus on the requirements of Approved Document G and Requirement G3.
Training combines technical knowledge with practical assessment and covers hot water systems up to 500 litres capacity and 45 kW power input.
Initial and reassessment routes available: the course can be taken by appropriately experienced candidates gaining the qualification for the first time or by existing certificate holders who need to renew their competence.

Already working in plumbing or heating? This course builds on existing practical experience rather than teaching plumbing fundamentals from scratch.

5. Entry Requirements
This course is intended for candidates who already have relevant plumbing or heating knowledge and practical experience.
Candidates should be experienced in the installation of hot and cold water systems and normally hold an appropriate recognised competence in a conventional fuel such as gas, oil or solid fuel, or a relevant Level 2 plumbing qualification or accepted equivalent.
LCL Awards also advises that a basic understanding of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations is desirable.

6. Assessment
Assessment uses a combination of theory and practical methods to check your understanding and ability to apply safe working procedures.

Renewing your qualification? LCL Awards provides a reassessment route for candidates returning to renew their Hot Water Systems & Safety certification.
7. Where can this qualification lead?
Successful candidates receive an LCL Awards Hot Water Systems & Safety certificate. The qualification certificate has a five-year expiry period.
The certificate is recognised by Competent Person Schemes approved to offer self-certification for relevant work under Approved Document G. Registration with an appropriate scheme is separate from completing the qualification itself.
Depending on your existing qualifications and career goals, further development may include:

- Further low-carbon heating qualifications, subject to relevant entry requirements.
