Core Gas Safety - Re-assessment - CCN1 - (LCL)

Maintain your domestic gas competency with the LCL Awards Core Domestic Gas Safety Reassessment (CCN1). Designed for existing gas operatives renewing their CCN1 qualification, this course refreshes your knowledge of gas safety legislation, combustion, ventilation, flues, testing procedures, and safe working practices. Through theory and practical assessment, you'll demonstrate your continued ability to work safely on domestic gas installations.

Description

The Core Domestic Gas Safety (CCN1) reassessment is designed for existing gas operatives who need to renew their core domestic gas safety certification.

The course refreshes the essential knowledge and practical competence associated with domestic gas safety, including legislation, combustion, ventilation, flues, tightness testing, emergency procedures and the correct use of gas testing equipment.

You'll complete both knowledge and practical assessments to demonstrate continued competence against the current requirements of the CCN1 category.

For existing gas operatives: this is a CCN1 reassessment route for candidates who already hold, or have recently held, the qualification. It is not an initial gas training course.

1. Is this course right for you?

This reassessment may be suitable if you are:

  • An existing gas operative renewing your CCN1 certification.
  • A gas engineer whose CCN1 has expired within the permitted reassessment period.
  • Looking to demonstrate continued competence in Core Domestic Gas Safety.
  • A heating engineer maintaining relevant domestic gas ACS categories.
  • Looking to refresh your understanding of current gas safety requirements and procedures.

Need initial CCN1 instead? If you are entering ACS for the first time rather than renewing an existing category, you'll need the appropriate initial assessment route.

2. Why take this qualification?

Gas operatives need to keep their knowledge and practical competence current as part of maintaining the relevant ACS categories for the work they undertake.

CCN1 reassessment provides an opportunity to refresh your understanding of core domestic gas safety requirements and demonstrate that you can continue to apply the required procedures correctly.

Through the reassessment you'll:

  • Refresh your Core Domestic Gas Safety knowledge.
  • Review current gas safety legislation and working requirements.
  • Revisit essential testing and safety procedures.
  • Demonstrate continued practical competence.
  • Renew your CCN1 certification following successful assessment.
  • Support continuity of your relevant domestic gas ACS categories, subject to their individual requirements.

3. What you'll learn

During the course you'll refresh your knowledge and practical understanding of areas including:

  • Gas safety legislation and industry requirements.
  • The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations.
  • Combustion principles and carbon monoxide risks.
  • Ventilation requirements.
  • Flues and combustion products.
  • Gas tightness testing and purging procedures.
  • Safe isolation and emergency procedures.
  • Use of gas testing equipment and measurement techniques.
  • Identification and reporting of unsafe situations.
  • Core domestic gas appliance safety checks.

4. What's Included?

Your course includes:

  • ✓ CCN1 Core Domestic Gas Safety reassessment.
  • ✓ Tutor-led revision and technical preparation.
  • ✓ Updates on relevant gas safety requirements and procedures.
  • ✓ Practical gas safety activities.
  • ✓ Use of relevant gas testing equipment.
  • ✓ Knowledge / written assessment.
  • ✓ Practical assessment.
  • ✓ LCL Awards certification upon successful completion.

5. Entry Requirements

Candidates must currently hold, or have previously held, a CCN1 certificate that expired within the last 12 months.

You should bring your current or previous CCN1 certificate and a passport photograph on the first day, together with any other documentation requested by Kelly Energy Training.

Certificate expired more than 12 months ago?

Contact Kelly Energy Training before booking so we can review your certification history and advise which assessment route is appropriate.

6. Assessment

CCN1 reassessment includes both knowledge and practical assessment.

You'll need to demonstrate your understanding of core domestic gas safety requirements as well as your ability to carry out the relevant practical procedures safely and correctly.

Assessment covers areas such as gas safety, combustion, ventilation, flues, tightness testing, emergency procedures and the identification of unsafe situations.

This is a reassessment of existing competence. Training and revision support are provided, but candidates are expected to arrive with the experience and knowledge appropriate to an existing CCN1 gas operative.

7. Where can this qualification lead?

Successful CCN1 reassessment renews your Core Domestic Gas Safety certification and can support continued progression across the domestic ACS categories relevant to your work.

Depending on your existing certification and the work you undertake, related ACS categories may include:

Remember: ACS certification and Gas Safe registration are separate. Engineers undertaking gas work must hold the appropriate competence categories and meet the relevant Gas Safe Register requirements for the work being carried out.
