Combining centre-based training with supervised workplace experience, this programme develops the knowledge and practical skills needed to work safely in the gas industry. On successful completion, you'll receive a Training Completion Certificate, enabling progression to ACS assessments and, subject to meeting the relevant requirements, Gas Safe registration.

The LCL Awards Gas Managed Learning Programme (MLP) provides a structured training route for people entering the gas industry, including new entrants and learners with relevant experience or knowledge of the Building Engineering Services sector.
The programme combines centre-based technical learning, practical workshop training and supervised workplace gas experience, allowing you to develop your knowledge and practical skills before applying them in real working environments.
Training covers areas including gas safety requirements, pipework, combustion, ventilation, domestic gas appliances, installation principles, servicing, fault finding and emergency procedures.
Training and workplace experience work together: learners complete 43 days of centre-based training at Kelly Energy Training, delivered two days per week, alongside the supervised workplace experience needed to build their Gas Work Log / Portfolio of Evidence.

2. Why take this qualification?

The Managed Learning Programme brings these stages together within a structured route before progression to initial ACS assessment.
Through the programme you'll:

6. Assessment
Assessment takes place throughout the programme and covers both technical knowledge and practical gas skills.
You'll also need to complete the required supervised workplace experience and build your Gas Work Log / Portfolio of Evidence to demonstrate the practical experience gained in real working environments.
Once the required centre-based training, workplace evidence and final programme assessments have been successfully completed, you'll receive the relevant Training Completion Certificate and can progress to the initial ACS assessment stage.
MLP and ACS are separate stages: the Managed Learning Programme develops and evidences your competence; ACS is the subsequent assessment of that competence for the gas categories being undertaken.
7. Where can this qualification lead?
Successful completion of the Managed Learning Programme provides the training and workplace evidence needed to progress to the next stage of the domestic gas qualification route.

Registration process, subject to requirements
Following successful completion of the MLP, learners can progress towards:
- CCN1 Core Domestic Gas Safety Initial Assessment .
- Relevant domestic appliance ACS categories for the scope of work required.
- Further specialist gas training and assessment.
- Gas Safe registration, subject to successfully completing the relevant assessments and meeting the separate registration requirements.

5. Entry Requirements
The Managed Learning Programme is designed for new entrants to the gas industry as well as suitable learners with previous knowledge or experience within Building Engineering Services.
A crucial part of the programme is access to suitable supervised workplace gas experience.
All learners must gain on-the-job experience under the supervision of a suitably competent Gas Safe registered engineer or approved workplace mentor. This experience is used to build the Gas Work Log / Portfolio of Evidence required as part of the programme.
