Core Domestic Gas Safety (CCN1) is the core ACS assessment category for eligible gas operatives progressing into domestic gas work.
The course and assessment cover essential areas of domestic gas safety, including legislation, combustion, ventilation, flues, gas pipework, tightness testing, emergency procedures and the correct use of gas testing equipment.
You'll need to demonstrate both your technical understanding and your ability to apply the required gas safety procedures correctly in practice.
Core ACS category: CCN1 is normally completed before appliance-specific categories such as CENWAT, CKR1, HTR1 and MET1.

This course may be suitable if you are:
- An eligible candidate progressing to your initial CCN1 assessment.
- Coming from an approved gas training route and ready to undertake ACS assessment.
- A heating or plumbing professional who has completed the required gas training and workplace experience.
- Progressing through a domestic gas qualification pathway.
- Looking to complete the core ACS category before relevant appliance-specific assessments.
New to gas? CCN1 is not beginner gas training. New entrants will normally need to complete an appropriate training programme and supervised workplace experience before progressing to initial ACS.

5. Entry Requirements
Candidates must be eligible to undertake an initial CCN1 ACS assessment and have completed appropriate gas training and practical development before enrolment.
For new entrants, this will normally include a recognised training route together with the required supervised workplace gas experience and supporting portfolio evidence.
Candidates may be asked to provide evidence of their training, qualifications, workplace experience and other supporting documentation before the assessment is confirmed.

6. Assessment
CCN1 is assessed through a combination of knowledge and practical assessment.
You'll need to demonstrate your understanding of core domestic gas safety requirements as well as your ability to carry out the relevant procedures safely and correctly.
Assessment covers areas including legislation, combustion, ventilation, flues, gas pipework, tightness testing, emergency procedures and unsafe situations.
ACS assesses competence. Candidates are expected to have completed the appropriate training and practical development before undertaking the initial assessment.
7. Where can this qualification lead?
Successful completion of CCN1 provides the core ACS category from which eligible gas operatives can progress to the appliance categories relevant to the work they intend to undertake.

Progressing towards Gas Safe registration?
Completing CCN1 and relevant appliance ACS assessments does not itself register an engineer with the Gas Safe Register. Registration is a separate process and applicants must meet the relevant requirements for the categories of work they intend to undertake.
