LCL: ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) Re-Assessment – MET1
The LCL Awards ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) Assessment – MET1: Domestic Gas Meters is designed for gas engineers seeking certification or re-assessment to install, commission, and maintain domestic gas meters. Successful completion of this module is essential for those who need to work with gas meters safely and in compliance with industry standards. The MET1 assessment is recognised by the Gas Safe Register, which allows engineers to work legally on domestic gas meter installations in the UK.
Description

- Setting and adjusting pressure regulators as required for safe operation of gas meters.
- Understanding the role of pressure regulators in ensuring correct gas flow and meter accuracy.
Tightness Testing and Purging
- Conducting tightness tests on gas meter installations to ensure no leaks are present.
- Safe and effective purging of gas meters during installation or maintenance to remove air from the system and prevent combustion issues.
Commissioning of Domestic Gas Meters:
- Procedures for commissioning gas meters, including setting correct meter readings and ensuring accurate operation.
- Verifying that meters are installed to the required standard and ready for safe use.
Identifying and Addressing Unsafe Situations:
- Recognising common faults or unsafe situations associated with gas meter installations.
- Understanding procedures for handling unsafe conditions, including issuing warning notices, shutting off supply, and notifying relevant authorities.
Assessment:
The MET1 module involves the following assessments:
- Written Examination – Testing knowledge of regulations, safety standards, and best practices for working with domestic gas meters.
- Practical Assessment – Hands-on demonstration of skills, including meter installation, pressure regulation, tightness testing, and commissioning.
Certification
- Upon successful completion, candidates receive a certificate from LCL Awards. This certification is valid for five years and is recognised by the Gas Safe Register, enabling operatives to work legally on domestic gas meters.
Course Duration
- The MET1 re-assessment typically takes one day, while the initial assessment may take longer depending on the training provider. Both include theoretical and practical components to ensure candidates meet competency standards.
