LCL: ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) Re-Assessment – CENWAT
The LCL Awards ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) Re-assessment – CENWAT: Domestic Gas Central Heating Boilers and Water Heaters is designed for gas engineers seeking certification or re-assessment for the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of domestic gas central heating boilers and water heaters. This module is essential for those working with these appliances in domestic settings, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
Description
Course Content:
CENWAT – Domestic Gas Central Heating Boilers and Water Heaters The CENWAT module covers essential knowledge and practical skills needed to work safely and effectively with domestic central heating boilers and water heaters. The content includes:
Gas Safety Legislation and Standards:
- Understanding the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations and other relevant standards.
- Reviewing responsibilities and legal requirements when working with domestic boilers and water heaters.
Installation and Positioning of Boilers and Water Heaters:
- Safe installation procedures for central heating boilers and water heaters, including positioning requirements and clearances.
- Following manufacturer specifications and ensuring appliances are installed to meet both safety standards and performance requirements.
Flueing and Ventilation Requirements:
- Ensuring proper installation of flues to safely remove combustion gases from the appliance.
- Understanding ventilation requirements to prevent harmful gas build-up, particularly carbon monoxide, and ensuring that flues and vents comply with regulatory standards.
Connection to the Gas Supply Safely
- Connecting boilers and water heaters to the gas supply, ensuring all connections are gas-tight and compliant with industry standards.
- Verifying that the appliance is securely connected and ready for safe operation.
Commissioning of Boilers and Water Heaters
- Procedures for commissioning boilers and water heaters, including setting burner pressures, adjusting controls, and testing flame stability.
- Ensuring appliances operate safely and efficiently before they are handed over to the customer.
Testing and Safety Checks
- Conducting essential safety checks, including gas tightness tests, pressure checks, and functional tests on flame failure devices.
- Identifying incomplete combustion and understanding corrective actions to resolve issues.
Identifying and Addressing Unsafe Situations:
- Recognising potential faults or unsafe conditions, such as poor ventilation, flueing issues, and signs of incomplete combustion.
- Procedures for dealing with unsafe situations, including issuing warning notices, shutting off the appliance, and advising on corrective actions.
Assessment
The CENWAT module involves the following assessments:
- Written Examination – Testing knowledge of relevant legislation, safety practices, installation and commissioning procedures, and standards for boilers and water heaters.
- Practical Assessment – Hands-on demonstration of skills, including safe installation, commissioning, and testing of central heating boilers and water heaters.
Certification:
Upon successful completion, candidates receive a certificate from LCL Awards. This certification is valid for five years and is recognised by the Gas Safe Register, authorising operatives to work legally on domestic central heating boilers and water heaters.
Course Duration:
The CENWAT re-assessment typically takes one day, while the initial assessment may take longer depending on the training provider. Both assessments include theoretical and practical components to ensure candidates meet competency standards.
