Core Course Content:CCN1 – Core Domestic Gas Safety

  • The CCN1 course provides the fundamental knowledge and skills required for working safely with gas in domestic settings. It covers:

Gas Legislation and Standards:

  • Understanding the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations.
  • Reviewing industry standards and codes of practice, including Health and Safety at Work Act requirements for gas operatives.

Combustion, Ventilation, and Flues:

  • Principles of gas combustion, including the characteristics of complete and incomplete combustion.
  • Ventilation requirements for gas appliances to ensure safe operation.
  • Correct installation and operation of flues to prevent carbon monoxide hazards.

Gas Safety Controls and Procedures:

  • Understanding gas safety controls and how they operate.
  • Procedures for gas tightness testing, purging, and dealing with emergency situations.

Installation and Commissioning of Gas Appliances:

  • Safe installation practices, including positioning, securing, and commissioning appliances.
  • Procedures for carrying out initial and ongoing safety checks on gas appliances.

Using Testing Equipment: 

  • Operation of gas detection equipment and testing tools, such as manometers and leak detection fluid.
  • Ensuring accurate readings for pressure, flow rates, and tightness tests.

Identifying and Responding to Unsafe Situations:

  • Recognising common faults and unsafe situations in gas installations.
  • Procedures for shutting off appliances and issuing warning notices if required.

Practical Assessment and Examination:

Prerequisites

This course is for candidates who have previously held a CCN1 certificate, but hold an expired certificate.
