HTR1- Initial
The LCL Awards ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) Assessment – HTR1: Domestic Gas Fires and Wall Heaters is designed for gas engineers seeking certification to install, commission, and maintain domestic gas fires and wall heaters. This module is essential for those who need to work with these appliances safely and in compliance with industry standards.
Description
Course Content:
HTR1 – Domestic Gas Fires and Wall Heaters The HTR1 module covers the essential knowledge and practical skills required for the safe handling of domestic gas fires and wall heaters, including:
Gas Safety Legislation and Standards:
- Reviewing the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations and other relevant industry standards.
- Understanding responsibilities and legal requirements when working with domestic gas fires and heaters.
Installation and Positioning of Gas Fires and Heaters
- Safe installation procedures for gas fires and wall heaters, including positioning requirements to ensure safe distances from flammable materials and adequate clearances.
- Understanding manufacturer specifications for positioning and securing appliances to meet safety standards.
Flueing and Ventilation Requirements:
- Ensuring correct installation of flues to safely remove combustion gases from the appliance.
- Understanding ventilation requirements to prevent the build-up of carbon monoxide and other harmful gases, and knowing when additional ventilation is required.
Connection to the Gas Supply
- Safely connecting gas fires and heaters to the gas supply, ensuring secure and gas-tight connections.
- Verifying that the appliance is connected in compliance with industry standards and manufacturer guidelines.
Commissioning of Gas Fires and Heaters:
- Procedures for commissioning gas fires and wall heaters, including testing burner pressures, flame stability, and performance.
- Verifying that the appliance is installed and functioning safely before use by the customer.
Testing and Safety Checks:
- Conducting essential safety checks on gas fires and wall heaters, including gas tightness tests, flame supervision device (FSD) checks, and operational tests.
- Identifying signs of incomplete combustion and understanding corrective actions to address unsafe combustion.
Identifying and Addressing Unsafe Situations:
- Recognising potential faults or unsafe conditions, such as poor flueing, inadequate ventilation, or incomplete combustion.
- Procedures for shutting off the appliance, issuing warning notices, and advising customers on required corrective actions.
Assessment
The HTR1 module involves the following assessments:
- Written Examination – Testing knowledge of relevant legislation, safety practices, installation procedures, and standards for domestic gas fires and wall heaters.
- Practical Assessment – Hands-on demonstration of skills, including safe installation, connection, commissioning, and safety checks on gas fires and heaters.
Certification
- Upon successful completion, candidates receive a certificate from LCL Awards.
- This certification is valid for five years and is recognised by the Gas Safe Register, enabling operatives to work legally on domestic gas fires and wall heaters.
Course Duration
The HTR1 re-assessment typically takes one day, while the initial assessment may take longer depending on the training provider. Both include theoretical and practical components to ensure candidates meet competency standards.
Prerequisites
Candidates must hold current CCN1 certificate.
