Level 3 Electrical Diploma - 2365-03 (City & Guilds)
The City & Guilds 2365-03 Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) is designed to advance the knowledge and skills of individuals pursuing a career as an electrician. Building upon the foundational concepts covered in the Level 2 Diploma, this qualification delves into more complex aspects of electrical installation and design.
Description
The City & Guilds 2365-03 Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) is the next stage of the 2365 electrical training route, building on the knowledge and practical installation experience developed at Level 2.
Level 3 moves the focus towards the technical, scientific and design principles behind electrical installations. You'll study advanced electrical science, system design, fault diagnosis, inspection and testing, environmental technologies and the wider responsibilities involved in electrical work.
Unlike Level 2, this stage is primarily focused on developing your technical understanding rather than teaching further installation activities.
Continuing the 2365 pathway: at Kelly Energy Training, learners complete both the 2365-02 Level 2 Diploma and the 2365-03 Level 3 Diploma as part of the route towards further electrotechnical qualifications.
1. Is this course right for you?
This course may be suitable if you are:
- Progressing from the City & Guilds 2365-02 Level 2 Diploma.
- Developing towards a career in electrical installation.
- Looking to strengthen your understanding of electrical science and design.
- Preparing for further electrotechnical training and workplace competence development.
- Interested in electrical fault diagnosis, Inspection & Testing and system design.
- Looking to progress towards Kelly's Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification / NVQ route.
Already completed Level 2? Level 3 develops the technical and scientific knowledge that sits alongside the practical installation skills developed during the 2365-02 stage.
2. Why take this qualification?
Electrical work requires more than practical installation ability. Electricians also need to understand why systems behave as they do, how installations are designed and how electrical principles are applied to real-world situations.
Level 3 develops this deeper technical understanding and prepares learners for the more advanced stages of their electrical training.
By completing this qualification you'll:
- Develop a deeper understanding of electrical science and principles.
- Study electrical system design and specification.
- Develop knowledge of fault diagnosis and rectification.
- Understand Inspection, Testing and Commissioning principles.
- Explore environmental and renewable energy technologies.
- Develop your understanding of professional roles within building services engineering.
- Prepare for progression towards further Level 3 electrotechnical training.
3. What you'll learn
The Level 3 Diploma covers six core areas:
Environmental Technology Systems – Unit 301
- Renewable energy sources and their integration with electrical systems.
- Environmental technologies including Solar PV, wind generation and energy storage.
- The impact of environmental technologies on electrical installations.
Principles of Electrical Science – Unit 302
- Advanced AC and DC electrical theory.
- Electrical calculations and their practical application.
- Electromagnetic principles relevant to electrical installations.
Fault Diagnosis and Rectification – Unit 303
- Methods used to identify and diagnose electrical faults.
- Principles of fault rectification.
- Safety considerations during fault diagnosis and repair.
Inspection, Testing and Commissioning – Unit 304
- Inspection and testing requirements.
- Commissioning principles for electrical installations.
- Documentation and certification requirements.
Electrical Systems Design – Unit 305
- Principles of electrical system design.
- Load calculations, cable selection and protective devices.
- Application of relevant design requirements and standards.
Career Awareness in Building Services Engineering – Unit 308
- Career pathways within building services engineering.
- Professional communication and project-related skills.
- Industry roles and responsibilities.
4. What's Included?
At Kelly Energy Training, the 2365-03 Level 3 Diploma forms the second stage of the City & Guilds 2365 route and is taken after completion of the 2365-02 Level 2 Diploma.
Learners should therefore already have the Level 2 electrical installation knowledge and practical experience that the Level 3 technical content builds upon.
Not completed Level 2 yet? You'll need to complete the 2365-02 stage before progressing through Kelly's 2365 pathway.
5. Entry Requirements
6. Assessment
Assessment is completed through a combination of written examinations, assignments and project work, depending on the individual unit.
You'll be assessed on areas including electrical science, system design, environmental technologies, fault diagnosis and the principles of Inspection, Testing and Commissioning.
Level 3 is primarily focused on demonstrating your technical, scientific and design understanding rather than completing further electrical installation activities.
7. Where can this qualification lead?
Completing the 2365-03 Level 3 Diploma is an important stage in Kelly's electrical training pathway, but it does not by itself make you a qualified electrician.
Learners progressing towards Kelly's Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification / NVQ route will also need the required Wiring Regulations and Initial Verification qualifications before progressing to workplace competence development.
The wider Kelly pathway includes:
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (2382) .
- Initial Verification (2391-50) .
- Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification / NVQ Route .
- Workplace evidence and occupational competence development.
- The relevant independent AM2 assessment.
Planning your route to electrician qualification? Level 2 and Level 3 are both required stages within Kelly's 2365 pathway.
