Gas Cookers & Hobs - ACS CKR1 - (LCL)

Develop the skills required to safely install, commission and maintain domestic gas cooking appliances with the LCL Awards CKR1 qualification. Designed for gas engineers looking to gain or renew their competency, this course covers the requirements for working on domestic gas cookers, ovens and cooking appliances. You'll develop your knowledge of installation procedures, safety checks, testing requirements and appliance commissioning.

Description

The CKR1 Domestic Gas Cooking Appliances qualification is designed for eligible gas engineers who need to gain or renew competence when working with domestic gas cooking appliances.

The course covers the knowledge and practical procedures associated with the safe installation, testing, commissioning and servicing of gas cookers, ovens and related domestic cooking appliances.

You'll develop your understanding of appliance positioning, ventilation, gas connections, commissioning procedures, safety checks and the identification of unsafe situations.

Appliance-specific ACS category: CKR1 builds on Core Domestic Gas Safety competence and is intended for candidates who already hold the required CCN1 certification.

1. Is this course right for you?

This course may be suitable if you are:

  • A gas engineer looking to add CKR1 to your current ACS categories.
  • An existing gas operative renewing CKR1 certification.
  • A heating engineer working with domestic gas cooking appliances.
  • Responsible for installing, commissioning or servicing gas cookers and ovens.
  • Looking to maintain or broaden your appliance-specific gas competence.

Need your core gas qualification first? CKR1 is an appliance-specific category and candidates must hold the required CCN1 Core Domestic Gas Safety certification before undertaking it.

2. Why take this qualification?

Domestic gas cooking appliances have specific installation, ventilation, clearance, commissioning and safety requirements that gas engineers need to understand for the work they undertake.

CKR1 develops and assesses the appliance-specific competence needed to work with domestic gas cooking appliances alongside your existing core gas safety knowledge.

Through the course and assessment you'll:

  • Develop your understanding of domestic gas cooking appliance requirements.
  • Apply relevant gas safety procedures to cooker and oven installations.
  • Understand appliance positioning, clearances and ventilation considerations.
  • Carry out appropriate installation and commissioning procedures.
  • Complete relevant operational and safety checks.
  • Identify unsafe situations and understand the appropriate action to take.
  • Support your ongoing appliance-specific ACS competence.

3. What you'll learn

You'll develop and demonstrate knowledge and practical competence in areas including:

  • Gas safety requirements relevant to domestic cooking appliances.
  • Appliance types and operating principles.
  • Appliance positioning and clearance requirements.
  • Ventilation requirements.
  • Gas supply and connection procedures.
  • Installation of domestic gas cookers and ovens.
  • Commissioning procedures.
  • Operational and gas safety checks.
  • Identification of unsafe conditions.
  • Appropriate actions where unsafe situations are identified.
  • Customer handover and guidance on safe appliance use.

4. What's Included?

Your course includes:

  • ✓ CKR1 Domestic Gas Cooking Appliances training and assessment.
  • ✓ Tutor-led technical preparation.
  • ✓ Appliance-specific gas safety guidance.
  • ✓ Practical installation and commissioning activities.
  • ✓ Testing and safety-check procedures.
  • ✓ Knowledge / written assessment.
  • ✓ Practical ACS assessment.
  • ✓ LCL Awards certification upon successful completion.

5. Entry Requirements

Candidates must hold a current CCN1 Core Domestic Gas Safety qualification before completing the CKR1 appliance-specific category.

Learners should bring their current certification and a passport photograph on the first day, together with any other documentation requested by Kelly Energy Training.

6. Assessment

CKR1 is assessed through a combination of knowledge and practical assessment.

You'll need to demonstrate your understanding of domestic gas cooking appliances and the relevant safety requirements, alongside your ability to carry out appropriate installation, testing and commissioning procedures.

This is an assessment of appliance-specific competence. Candidates are expected to already hold the required core domestic gas safety competence through CCN1.

7. Where can this qualification lead?

Successful completion of CKR1 can support eligible gas engineers who undertake work on domestic gas cooking appliances within the scope of their competence and registration.

Depending on the work you undertake, related ACS categories may include:

Gas Safe registration remains separate. Holding CKR1 does not by itself authorise all domestic gas work. Engineers must hold the relevant competence categories and meet the applicable Gas Safe Register requirements for the work they undertake.
