Gas Meters - ACS MET1 - (LCL)
Develop the skills required to install safely, commission, and maintain domestic gas meters with the LCL Awards MET1 qualification. Designed for gas engineers looking to gain or renew their appliance-specific competency, this course covers gas meter installation, positioning, testing, commissioning, and safety procedures. You'll develop the knowledge and practical skills required to work confidently with domestic gas meter installations.
Description
The MET1 Domestic Gas Meters qualification is designed for eligible gas engineers who need to gain or renew competence when working with domestic gas meter installations.
The course covers the knowledge and practical procedures associated with meter installation, positioning, pressure regulation, tightness testing, purging and commissioning.
You'll also develop your understanding of gas safety requirements, appropriate testing procedures and the actions to take when faults or unsafe situations are identified.
Specialist ACS category: MET1 builds on Core Domestic Gas Safety competence and is intended for candidates who already hold the required CCN1 certification.
1. Is this course right for you?
This course may be suitable if you are:
- A gas engineer looking to add MET1 to your current ACS categories.
- An existing gas operative renewing MET1 certification.
- Working with domestic gas meter installations.
- Looking to develop or maintain gas meter-specific competence.
- Expanding the range of domestic gas work relevant to your role.
Need your core gas qualification first? MET1 is a specialist category and candidates must hold the required CCN1 Core Domestic Gas Safety certification before undertaking it.
2. Why take this qualification?
Domestic gas meter work involves specific requirements around installation, positioning, pressure, tightness testing, purging and commissioning.
MET1 develops and assesses the specialist competence needed to work with domestic gas meters alongside your existing Core Domestic Gas Safety knowledge.
Through the course and assessment you'll:
- Develop your understanding of domestic gas meter requirements.
- Apply relevant gas safety procedures to meter installations.
- Understand meter positioning and installation considerations.
- Carry out appropriate pressure, tightness testing and purging procedures.
- Develop your understanding of meter commissioning.
- Identify faults and unsafe situations and understand the appropriate action to take.
- Support your ongoing gas meter-specific ACS competence.
3. What you'll learn
You'll develop and demonstrate knowledge and practical competence in areas including:
- Gas safety requirements relevant to domestic gas meters.
- Domestic gas meter installation requirements.
- Meter positioning and installation.
- Pressure checks and regulation.
- Gas tightness testing procedures.
- Purging procedures.
- Commissioning of domestic gas meters.
- Use of relevant testing equipment.
- Identification of faults and unsafe situations.
- Appropriate procedures when gas-related safety issues are identified.
4. What's Included?
Your course includes:
- ✓ MET1 Domestic Gas Meters training and assessment.
- ✓ Tutor-led technical preparation.
- ✓ Gas meter-specific safety guidance.
- ✓ Practical meter installation activities.
- ✓ Tightness testing, purging and commissioning practice.
- ✓ Use of relevant gas testing equipment.

5. Entry Requirements
Candidates must hold a current CCN1 Core Domestic Gas Safety qualification before completing the MET1 category.
Learners should bring their current certification and any other documentation requested by Kelly Energy Training on the first day.
Don't currently hold CCN1?
6. Assessment
MET1 is assessed through a combination of knowledge and practical assessment.
You'll need to demonstrate your understanding of domestic gas meter installations and the relevant safety requirements, alongside your ability to carry out appropriate installation, testing, purging and commissioning procedures.
This is an assessment of meter-specific competence. Candidates are expected to already hold the required Core Domestic Gas Safety competence through CCN1.
7. Where can this qualification lead?
Successful completion of MET1 can support eligible gas engineers undertaking domestic gas meter work within the scope of their competence and registration.
Depending on the work you undertake, related ACS categories may include:
- CKR1 – Gas Cookers & Hobs .
- HTR1 – Gas Fires & Wall Heaters .
- CENWAT – Gas Boilers & Water Heaters .
Gas Safe registration remains separate. Holding MET1 does not by itself cover other categories of domestic gas work. Engineers must hold the relevant competence categories and meet the applicable Gas Safe Register requirements for the work they undertake.
