Gas Fires & Wall Heaters - ACS HTR1 - (LCL)

Develop the specialist skills required to install safely, commission, and maintain domestic gas fires and wall heaters with the LCL Awards HTR1 qualification. Designed for gas engineers looking to gain or renew their appliance-specific competency, this course covers installation procedures, flue and ventilation requirements, testing, commissioning and safety checks. You'll develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to work confidently with domestic gas fires and wall heaters.

Description

The HTR1 Domestic Gas Fires and Wall Heaters qualification is designed for eligible gas engineers who need to gain or renew competence when working with domestic gas fires and wall heaters.

The course covers the knowledge and practical procedures associated with the safe installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of these appliances, including appliance positioning, gas connections, flues, ventilation and relevant gas safety requirements.

You'll also develop your understanding of operational safety checks, combustion-related issues, unsafe situations and the correct action to take where faults or safety concerns are identified.

Appliance-specific ACS category: HTR1 builds on Core Domestic Gas Safety competence and is intended for candidates who already hold the required CCN1 certification.

1. Is this course right for you?

This course may be suitable if you are:

  • A gas engineer looking to add HTR1 to your current ACS categories.
  • An existing gas operative renewing HTR1 certification.
  • Working with domestic gas fires and wall heaters.
  • A heating professional looking to broaden your domestic gas competence.
  • Looking to develop or maintain appliance-specific skills in this area.

Need your core gas qualification first? HTR1 is an appliance-specific category and candidates must hold the required CCN1 Core Domestic Gas Safety certification before undertaking it.

2. Why take this qualification?

Domestic gas fires and wall heaters have specific requirements around installation, appliance positioning, ventilation, flues, combustion and commissioning.

HTR1 develops and assesses the appliance-specific competence needed to work with these appliances alongside your existing Core Domestic Gas Safety knowledge.

Through the course and assessment you'll:

  • Develop your understanding of domestic gas fires and wall heaters.
  • Apply relevant gas safety requirements to appliance installation and servicing.
  • Understand positioning, ventilation and flue considerations.
  • Carry out appropriate installation and commissioning procedures.
  • Complete relevant operational and safety checks.
  • Identify combustion issues, faults and unsafe situations.
  • Support your ongoing appliance-specific ACS competence.

3. What you'll learn

You'll develop and demonstrate knowledge and practical competence in areas including:

  • Gas safety requirements relevant to domestic gas fires and wall heaters.
  • Appliance types and operating principles.
  • Appliance positioning and manufacturer requirements.
  • Ventilation requirements.
  • Flue requirements and combustion considerations.
  • Gas supply and connection procedures.
  • Installation of domestic gas fires and wall heaters.
  • Commissioning procedures.
  • Gas tightness and operational safety checks.
  • Identification of combustion issues, faults and unsafe conditions.
  • Appropriate action where unsafe situations are identified.

4. What's Included?

Your course includes:

  • ✓ HTR1 Domestic Gas Fires and Wall Heaters training and assessment.
  • ✓ Tutor-led technical preparation.
  • ✓ Appliance-specific gas safety guidance.
  • ✓ Practical installation and assessment activities.
  • ✓ Flue, ventilation and combustion considerations.
  • ✓ Testing and commissioning practice.
  • ✓ Knowledge / written assessment.
  • ✓ Practical ACS assessment.
  • ✓ LCL Awards certification upon successful completion.

5. Entry Requirements

Candidates must hold a current CCN1 Core Domestic Gas Safety qualification before completing the HTR1 appliance-specific category.

Learners should bring their current certification and a passport photograph on the first day, together with any other documentation requested by Kelly Energy Training.

6. Assessment

HTR1 is assessed through a combination of knowledge and practical assessment.

You'll need to demonstrate your understanding of domestic gas fires and wall heaters and the relevant safety requirements, alongside your ability to carry out appropriate installation, testing and commissioning procedures.

This is an assessment of appliance-specific competence. Candidates are expected to already hold the required Core Domestic Gas Safety competence through CCN1.

7. Where can this qualification lead?

Successful completion of HTR1 can support eligible gas engineers undertaking work on domestic gas fires and wall heaters within the scope of their competence and registration.

Depending on the work you undertake, related ACS categories may include:

Gas Safe registration remains separate. Holding HTR1 does not by itself cover other categories of domestic gas work. Engineers must hold the relevant competence categories and meet the applicable Gas Safe Register requirements for the work they undertake.
