The City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification (5357) is a workplace-based qualification for learners developing occupational competence as an installation or maintenance electrician.
It combines technical knowledge with evidence gathered from real electrical work, allowing you to demonstrate that you can apply your skills safely and competently in the workplace.
You'll develop and demonstrate competence across areas including electrical installation, safe working practices, Inspection & Testing, fault diagnosis and the application of current industry requirements.
A workplace competence qualification: 5357 is not a classroom-only electrical course. You'll need access to suitable real electrical work so you can build the evidence required for assessment.
5. Entry Requirements
Learners joining Kelly Energy Training's 5357 route must already have completed the required technical electrical qualifications before progressing to workplace competence assessment.
For Kelly's route, this normally includes:
- City & Guilds 2365-02 Level 2 Electrical Diploma .
- City & Guilds 2365-03 Level 3 Electrical Diploma .
- A current 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
- Initial Verification (2391-50) , or an accepted equivalent.
You'll also need access to a suitable workplace environment where you can carry out appropriate electrical work and gather the evidence needed to demonstrate occupational competence.

6. Assessment
Assessment is based on a combination of knowledge, practical competence and workplace evidence.
You'll build evidence from real electrical work to demonstrate that you can carry out the required activities safely and to the appropriate occupational standard.
Your assessor will review your evidence, observe competence where required and support you in demonstrating that the qualification requirements have been met.
This is evidence-led rather than based on a fixed number of workplace hours. Progress depends on your ability to access suitable work and demonstrate the required occupational competence.
7. Where can this qualification lead?
The Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification is a major stage in the pathway towards demonstrating occupational competence as an electrician.
Once the required workplace competence has been completed, learners progressing through the full electrician qualification route will also need to complete the relevant independent AM2 assessment.
Depending on your completed qualifications, experience and career goals, further development may include:
